5 Tips For First Year Students To Survive Their Freshman Year
Starting a new school is a daunting task since you will be starting a new life with new faces and friends. Certainly, a lot of students who are probably going to experience their first year of University are probably feeling somewhere between being incredibly nervous or extremely excited. Well.. Worry not! Today we will be giving first year students tips about their first year at University and how to survive it without being ragged every morning.
It’s completely different from high school
It might sound like a cliché, but we really need to emphasise that tertiary isn’t like high school. No one will call home if you don’t attend your classes. You have to get yourself to those lecture seats. All your work and study will be self-driven so you need to maybe set reminders until you get used to the new environment
Balance your study and free time
Balancing your free time between study and your “own me time” is not easy as it sounds. University requires a lot more studying, it would be advisable that during your break, quickly grab something to eat then go back and take a look at your books. There’s certainly no time to waste. The earlier you get things done, the more time you’ll have to yourself
Eat properly
Don’t spend too much busy studying or doing your assignments, take a break and prepare yourself a proper meal. It is definitely impossible to concentrate on an empty stomach, so remember to always get something healthy whenever you’re getting hungry. Best diet is the best way to stay focused in class, although it might sound very cheesy, but try it and you’ll see
Ask for help
Never, not even in a dull day hesitate to ask for help when you need it. Don’t be afraid or embarrassed to ask. It’s no secret that lectures can be at times intimidating, but they understand how it’s like being a freshman, so they’ll be more open to help you
Make the most of it
Learning to manage your new load will help you to make the transition into tertiary education a happy and exciting one. University is no piece of cake, but take advantage all the resources at your disposal. Make new friends, university can be a lonely place, so initiate conversations with the people in your tutorial. Wind up with people and who knows, you might just score yourself a new bestie.
