7-Year-Old SA Kid Launches A Book
A young South African author has already penned her first. At just seven years old, Michelle Nkamankeng, celebrated the launch of her book, Waiting for the Waves at Wits University’s education campus in Parktown on Saturday, 1 October.
The book was inspired by a family visit to the beach where Michelle was able to conquer her fear of the waves with the help and encouragement of her family. The book follows a similar storyline, and is the first of a four-part series which will be published over the next few years.
“I have just completed writing my fourth book called The Golden Ring,” Michelle told All4Women. “My first two books Waiting For The Waves and The Little Girl Who Believes In Herself were completed when I was six-years-old in grade one. The third book, The Little Mouse, and fourth book were completed when I was seven-years-old.”
Michelle currently attends Sacred Heart College in Johannesburg. Colin Northmore, head of Sacred Heart College, wrote Waiting For The Waves‘s foreword: “The story highlights the contradictions of emotions: ultimately, by freeing oneself from fear, you give yourself permission to truly experience the beauty of nature.”
