Job description

The Proudly South African campaign invites applications from suitably qualified candidates for the position of public relations manager, reporting to chief officer: marketing and communications.

The public relations manager administers public affairs policies and procedures, maintaining positive relations with the public, the media and Proudly SA stakeholders. Develops and oversees the delivery of all publications, press and media communications, calendars, special promotions, and general public information on developments, initiatives, activities and events regarding Proudly South African.

Minimum requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism/communication
  • Three to five years of communication/public relations experience and media/journalism experience will be added advantage

Requirements

  • Writes edits, reviews, and obtains approval for public relations materials including news releases, fact sheets, articles, newsletters, advertorials and speeches, may write technical and/or scientific documents, proposals, or articles
  • Responsible for planning and drafting policies, strategies, and responses relative to institutional issues and crisis management
  • Responsible for identifying third party supplier/s if required
  • Responsible for the management of critical stakeholders
  • Provides support for promotional special events such as open houses, book signings, fundraisers, outreach and community events, tours, press conferences, banquets, exhibits, product or service fairs, and athletic events
  • Oversees the content, production, and distribution of promotional printed materials including brochures, flyers, advertorials, newsletters, speeches, etc.
  • Manage updates and/or additions to the Proudly SA website and social media platforms
  • Responds to requests for information from media personnel and the public, distributes promotional materials, including flyers, brochures, and press kits, disseminates information via the appropriate media
  • Oversees all communication between Proudly South African and the media
  • May represent Proudly South African at community and business meetings
  • Manages media monitoring and draws up monthly and quarterly reports relating to media coverage, publicity, AVEs and PR/editorial values

Advantageous

  • Has an understanding of the structure and functions within Proudly South African including its products and services
  • Strong knowledge of journalism, public relations and general communications principles and practices
  • Actively engages in learning about the market place, developments, trends and specific clients
  • Computer literate (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Ability to set up digital media processes to manage media and PR events
  • Ability to use independent judgment and to gather, manage and impart information to the media and various other internal and external audiences
  • Ability to develop a detailed integrated stakeholder map
  • Ability to establish a fully functioning media and communication function that includes business operating model, process and policies that will govern all activities and refine the organisation structure to reflect changes
  • Able to compose sensible reports, memorandums and emails in a well-written and professional style
  • Able to work under pressure with tight deadlines by efficiently planning and prioritising time in response to incoming needs
