DJ Arch Junior Aims To Break A Guinness World Record As the “Youngest Club DJ”
According to reports, the youngest winner of South Africa’s Got Talent is required to spin approximately 25 songs and keep a crowd dancing for an hour to take over the throne from six-year-old Brandon Duke from Canada, who holds the current Guinness World Record title.
This will be Arch’s second attempt at breaking the world record, after failing to play for an hour last year.
“At that time it was kind of impossible for him to play that long. He could only do 15 to 20 minutes, then his concentration would go,” Glen Hlongwane, Arch’s dad, told the Saturday Star.
Next Saturday, Arch will be taking to the McDonald’s U/14 Schools League national finals at the Lucas Moripe Stadium in Atteridgeville, Pretoria, to give it another try.
In preparation for this mammoth feat, his dad revealed that he has been pushing him to play hour-long sets. However, while Arch may be confident and excited at the thought of breaking a world record, Glen admitted that his son thinks 20-25 songs is “a lot” to spin.
“When I drive him to creche I tell him the big day is coming, and you will have to play an hour set so you can officially be the world’s youngest DJ. Then he says ‘really’, with a smile on his face.
“Then I tell him you will have to play about 20 to 25 songs, and he says, ‘yoh! that’s a lot’. He laughs, but he seems so confident, and I do believe in him, I always did.”
Arch has previously played alongside international ‘godfathers of house’ music‚ Roger Sanchez‚ David Morales‚ Jazzie B and Todd Terry as well as South African stalwarts DJ Ganyani‚ Bob Mabena‚ DJ Mbuso Phezulu‚ Sishisoul and Fistaz Mixwell.
