Actress Thuli Phongolo Tells Us How She Deals With Kissing Scenes

What are actors really thinking when they kiss their co-stars? Is there a trick? Is there an etiquette? Generations actress Thulo Phongolo has opened up about how she deals with kissing and crying scenes.

“As an actress, there are scenes where I am expected to cry or kiss someone. Many people advised me to think about something bad that happened to me in the past and draw from that pain to make myself cry in a scene, which does not work for me. I always find a way to let go of past pains and forgive.”

“So, instead I immerse myself in the role that I play. I put myself in my characters’ shoes, and the emotions and tears come easily.”

“I don’t believe you can fake an emotion.  Kissing a co-actor is part of my job, so I detach Thuli and become Namhla. This makes it easier. I’m a professional and it is part of my job, so no one makes the scene awkward. Viewers always think it’s weird, but for me, it’s just another day at the office!”
