Lira is taking things up a notch with her new album ‘Born Free’ which offers a persuasive testament to the human spirit’s ability to transcend in the face of obstacles and seemingly insurmountable odds. The album is ‘powerful , definitive, strong, and bold’. The album is already being declared as the soundtrack that will talk to the young South African generation. Powerful, definitive and inspirational are some of the words being used to describe the album that has been five years in the making.
In an interview she had on the Express show, the multi-platinum selling South African vocalist spoke about her album and her growth in the music industry.
“I am at a stage in my career where I think I can stand for a movement. Born Free for me is about recognising that we are all born free and it’s a challenge to define what that freedom means, and to go by the business of expressing it.”
Lira says the songs on the album are an aspect of freedom. She says, “My own life journey amazes me. I’ve realised that we all have this beautiful power that we are given just by being born to do something great. So The music amplifies those idea. I have grown in music. I have evolved. The sound has evolved. ”
Lira will launch her new album Born Free at Gold Reef City at The Lyric on Friday, 8 April 2016 and Saturday, 9 April 2016. The independently produced album is the singer’s sixth, and first under the record company Otarel, which she owns.
