It is sad how the very same people who preach body positivity, will shockingly turn around and shame others for their body shape and size. Worse still, in this day and age, where a lot of people are dealing with issues of depression, they are made to feel even worse for themselves about situations they have no control over.
Most people have experienced this kind of abuse, and it comes from strangers as well as people that we know. Even celebrities like Inno Matijane, Bonang Matheba, Lady Zamar, Kuli Roberts and Mampintsha have been victims of trolls picking on them because of their body weight and other features. Just like any other person, these personalities have been affected in a way by how people feel entitled to talk about their bodies negatively.
Another celebrity who recently because a victim of body shaming is Relebogile Mabotja. The talented actress, producer and media personality never expected the reception she got at one Jet store. One staff member commented on Relebogile’s body and weight, something she didn’t take kind to. What baffled Relebogile most is the fact that Jet has a curve range. Talk about going against your brand identity!
“It’s @jet_fashion having a curve range but the staff body shaming me, for me! My day was thrown yesterday at Cresta mall when a staff member felt the need to comment on my body and weight and I am beyond defeated. Where is the staff training? How and why is this OK in 2022?” Relebogile said.
