Rihanna’s New Album ‪Goes Platinum Is Just 15 hours!

Rihanna’s eighth album has been in the works for a couple of years, and anticipation began to skyrocket just around a year ago as she started releasing singles. Rihanna announced the album in November, launching a series of increasingly convoluted interactive apps with Samsung, and every major holiday was filled with rumors that it would emerge. It finally arrived on a Wednesday afternoon in late January, seemingly mistakenly posted on TIDAL, the Jay Z-owned streaming service that Rihanna has played a large role in promoting since its launch a year ago.

It was taken down within minutes, and after news that it would be a TIDAL exclusive, ended up being released online for free, bypassing the current infrastructure in a major way and delivering it straight to a million fans. Despite of the leaked album rumors and mixed reviews, the Barbados singer has come up on top once again.

More than 1.4 million fans downloaded RiRi’s eighth studio album from TIDAL in just 15 hours, which made it go platinum. Rihanna partnered with Samsung to exclusively offer free download codes for ANTI‘s release and was streamed more than 13 million times the night it was dropped on January 27.

Grace Kim, TIDAL’s director of Marketing told SPIN, “When we started this campaign, we expected this to take a week. 1.4 million in not 24 hours but 15 hours, that’s a really big deal for us.”
