South Africa Ranked The Most Corrupt Country In Africa
In many developing countries, corruption is simply a means to an end. The more political turmoil and underlying poverty, the more corrupt leaders and groups rise and govern the rest of the country. The places on the list of the most corrupt countries in Africa have scored among the worst in terms of political, economic, and social corruption and instability, and we are not incredibly surprised by the results.
When a country is strapped for money, resources, and developmental stability and growth, it is so much easier for deceitful leaders to take the reins and lead people astray. We may be living in the year 2015, but the existing corruption seem to transport us back to the dark ages.
A Transparency International survey released on Tuesday showed that 83 percent of South Africans interviewed felt that corruption had increased, with Ghana and Nigeria also among the worst-affected nations. Ghana has been ranked as the second most corrupt African nation behind South Africa which is the most corrupt of the entire continent.
South Africa has been rocked by high-profile corruption scandals in recent years, including lavish public spending on renovations at President Jacob Zuma’s private homestead. . Transparency International (TI) has stated that corruption was undermining development in sub-Saharan Africa saying that South Africa remains most corrupt country In Africa.
It said in a report published in Johannesburg that investigation has revealed that an estimated 75 million people gave bribes last year. The report said that Word Bank data showed that Sub-Saharan Africa has a total population of 973 million, and more than 22 per cent of Africans who came into contact with public service in the past 12 months paid bribe.
