Vacancy: Blasters
| Purpose | Providing technical expertise and value adding blasting services to customers to support company’s strategic thrust into value added premium markets. The successful incumbent will be responsible for overseeing the deployment of bulk explosives and explosives accessories on an opencast bench and to ensure the successful use of these explosives and accessories when blasting at the customer site. |
| Duties & Responsibilities | • Operate in a safe and efficient manner at company and customer sites
• Competent operation of technical blasting tools • Interpretation of blast design data for safe and efficient blasting • Communication of blast design data to supervisor/customer/ subcontractor • Responsible for logistics of supply of explosives products for blasting operations at allocated sites • Responsible for safe blasting process • Conducts post blast evaluation • Identifies and analysis opportunities for value adding services to improve customer operations • Extensive travel to Lesotho weekly • Blasting assessments on a weekly basis on the operators and assistants • Monthly reports on the business, supply, delivery and usage of product • Interfacing with the technical projects team, accountable for all technical projects on site • A full understanding of all the modules that make up the blasting competency program • Ability to deal with management at all levels in the organization • Problem solving as well as decision making skills both in on-bench conditions and in handling customer enquiries which is critical at all times. • Knowledge of gathering information from various sources to determine the viability of the business. • Initiative to extract information to provide management with information that could further assist them in management decisions. |
| Required Qualification & Skills | • Grade 12 certificate or NQF 4 equivalent
• Valid Code B Drivers Licence. • Surface blasting certificate (Legal Requirement) • Statistical understanding – for report preparation • Relevant Product Knowledge (Explosives, Explosives Accessories, Electronic Initiation systems) • Must have at least 3 to 5 years surface mining or blasting experience • Knowledge of and experience in Safety, Health Environment and relevant legislation pertaining to mining and mining operations • Mechanical aptitude an added advantage |
