Phindile Gwala Shares More Epic Content From Her Daughter’s Umhlonyane Ceremony. One of the most beautiful experiences for any parent out there, is seeing their child coming of age. It show t hat your teachings and hard work were not in vain. Phindile Gwala feels exactly that way with her daughter Thato, who recently had her Umhlonyane Ceremony.

Umhlonyane is a traditional ceremony that celebrates a girl’s first menstruation and marks her transition into womanhood. A week before the ceremony, the girl is kept in a separate room away from other people, where she will stay inside and comes out on the day of the ceremony. By the time she is in that room the elder women visit the girl to give advice and guidance on how to behave as a teenager (itshitshi – Zulu maiden).

For Phindile, seeing her daughter go through this phase is such an honor. The talented actress was filled with pride and gratitude witnessing Thato honor her traditions and carry herself with so much respect. She expressed gratitude to God for the blessings in a human form.

Celebrating my daughter’s Umhlonyane touched me in ways, I can’t even put into words. Seeing her honour our traditions, carry herself with respect, and love God so sincerely made me so emotional. Thato, you are a shining light in my life mntanami, and I thank God for you every day.❤️❤️❤️❤️,” Phindile said with pride.

From the moment she opened her eyes and smiled at me on the day she was born, I knew my life had changed. Eighteen years later, that same look still reminds me what unconditional love feels like,” she captioned one of the posts.
