Taylor Swift beat Beyonce To Claim The World’s Most Popular Artist

All the Swifties are rejoicing around the world as Taylor Swift has been named the world’s most popular artist for 2014 by the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI).

No Retreat, No Surrender

Taylor topped the list which is compiled from physical sales, downloads and streaming data despite removing her music from spotify saying it didn’t feel right. “I’m not willing to contribute my life’s work to an experiment that I don’t feel fairly compensates the writers, producers, artists and creators of this music”, she said.

Taylor who will be performing at the Brit Awards tomorrow and headline Radio One’s big weekend in Norwich later this year shot to number one in both USA and UK with her fifth studio album, 1989 which sold 1,29m copies in its first week as compared to 800 000 that was predicted.

The shake it off singer beat One direction to take the top spot on the list, as well as her pal Thinking out loud singer Ed Sheeren who took the third spot. The list was dominated by British artists including Colplay, Sam Smith and Pink Floyd. The top ten was rounded up by Michael Jackson, Katy Perry and Queen Beyonce` secured the tenth spot.
