AB de Villiers Scores The Fastest ODI Century
Is he AB-solutely amazing or what? The batsman set a new record as the fastest ODI century during an innings of 149 against the West Indies in Johannesburg yesterday. AB had already beaten Sanath Jayasuriya’s nineteen year record for the fastest fifty. He also beat New Zealand’s Cory Anderson who had set the new record the previous year against the very same West Indies by a few runs .
After the match de Villiers said he was on 92 when he realized he was close, “I wasn’t going to take singles in the nineties. ” “I got really fired up in the changing room and sort of played my knock before I even came out to bat.” “Aggression was the main thing for me today, i wanted to go from the word go.” AB hit scoring shot off 41 of the 44 balls he faced including 16 sixes to equal Rohit Sharma’s record before he got out.
There was nothing short of praises for the batsman from his teammates to cricket legends around the world.
With Hashim Amla saying, “he’s an amazing player, i don’t think there’s anybody who can do it as consistently as AB.”
Former England captain Michael Vaughn said, “have to say AB de Villiers is the definition of a cricket genius……AB-solutulely incredible!”
Ex England fast bowler Bob Willis said, “AB’s record for ODI hundred off 31 balls could make him the best batsman of all time.”
Former S.A. batsman Herschelle Gibbs said, “AB showing he’s simply the best!”
Ex Indian batsman Aakash Chopra said, “i demand a DNA test of AB de Villiers, this game is only for humans.”
South Africa scored 439-2 as they set their highest ever ODI score beating the 438-9 win against Australia in March 2006.
