1. The South African and Nigerian Chioma Umeala 17 July 1996. She is 24 years old.
2. Being both South African and Nigerian, Chioma struggles with the conflict between South Africa and foreign nationals. She finds herself torn between two homes and I don’t feel fully welcomed by one due to my Nigerian heritage.
3. Chioma has always loved being a creative from a young age. She studied music in primary school and in high school that artistry extended itself to drama. Two years after leaving high school, she went to Africa Film Drama Art for a year.
4. She then went to Indigo View, an acting academy for advanced actors. After she completed my course, Chioma found an agent and only then did she manage to get into the film industry.
5. Her most notable career highlight so far is her role as Ayo on Isono on BET Africa. Ayo is Pastor Abiola and Titi’s headstrong daughter. She’s a rebel who constantly challenges her parents, especially when it comes to Abiola’s reliance on faith to heal all ills.
6. Chioma is thankful for Miriam Makeba, Terry Pheto, Lupita Nyong’o and so many more who have put Africa on the world stage. She hopes to one day achieve international success and recognition with her acting and film career like these women.
