Job description

• Assisting the fashion and beauty editor to produce all fashion and beauty sections of the magazine (and digital extensions) on a day-to-day and monthly basis by taking responsibility for specific administrative and organisational duties, including sourcing, returns, credits and pricing of product used in the shoots including social networking contributions. The junior content producer (fashion and beauty) is entirely responsible for ensuring that all fashion and beauty contacts and stockists are kept current and up to date on a monthly basis.
• Produce content for print and digital (write, images, video, galleries, social media) with an eye to growing and capturing audience, as well as monetising the section
• Maintain good and professional relationships with editorial staff in respective departments, clients and other role players in the business.
• Be a positive and outgoing representative for Good Housekeeping, building up a network of contacts and attending launches and functions – some out of town – on behalf of the magazine.
• Responsible for maintaining the beauty cupboard
• Produce at least three pieces of beauty or other content as required for web and social media platforms every day, with an eye to growing and capturing audience and monetising the site.
• Reinforce Good Housekeeping’s position as a fashion and beauty authority in the South African market by building an engaged and active audience through social media (Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Instagram) during working hours, at work functions, through our dedicated Good Housekeeping handles or, where applicable, in your personal capacity
• Develop and maintain professional relationships with beauty clients/advertisers, beauty and fashion houses, and readers

Essential duties and responsibilities (For print and digital platforms):
The core responsibilities of the junior content producer (fashion and beauty)  will include but not be limited to:

Beauty
• Assist the fashion and beauty editor and editorial team with the sourcing of any items for shoots as per the brief and according to deadlines as required.
• Contributing to special beauty sections and, when necessary, to a special beauty supplement we may have.
• Produce beauty and other content as required for print and digital (write, images, video, social media) with an eye to growing and capturing audience, as well as monetising the section
• Manage beauty and fashion department’s social media, alongside the fashion and beauty editor
• Maintain good and professional relationships with editorial staff in respective departments, clients and other role players in the business.
• Be a positive and outgoing representative for Good Housekeeping, building up a network of contacts and attending launches and functions  – some out of town – on behalf of the magazine.
• Keep abreast of international fashion and beauty trends and topics related to the magazine and feed information to the editorial.
• Type up/input photo credits.
• Responsible for maintaining the beauty cupboard

Fashion
• Ensuring that all fashion that is produced for GH (print and digital) complies with the brand
• Compiling fashion ideas for single pages (concept, story/mood board and layout references) that need to be presented to the fashion and beauty editor timeously in order to meet deadlines
• Ensure that all fashion briefs are received timeously from the fashion and beauty editor in order for these to be sent out to suppliers within deadline
• Responsible for sending one monthly fashion brief (which includes all pages to be produced in that month) to all our fashion suppliers
• Following up that the brief has been received and recording who is sending for which briefs
• Responsible for the delivery, sorting, allocation, sending and return of all garments sent for monthly shoots
• Ensuring that fashion speaks on a national level, i.e. is not Cape Town biased
• Ensuring that all fashion sourced is accessible to our readers
• Assist fashion and beauty editor with all sourcing of clothes, shoes and accessories
• Ensuring that the majority of all fashion produced for print is not sourced from stores, is to be samples and these samples need to be sourced from current and possible advertisers (online may be sourced from stores to support advertisers or possible advertisers that were not represented in print)
• Help to book photographers, studio, makeup, model, hair, location, etc.
• Arrange all logistics for shoots, including model sizing and location requirements
• Ensure all products/clothes are transported to and from location/studio for each shoot
• Return all clothes in the same condition after the shoot, carefully documented, packaged and bring back a signed note that they have received the merchandise back.
• Inform the fashion and beauty editor of any missing merchandise.
• Ensure all prices for products used in shoots are efficiently and accurately acquired
• Ensure that all deadlines are adhered to
• Ensuring that models used throughout the book fairly represent the South African GH reader
• Conceptualising and writing fashion articles; i.e. headlines, intros, fashion tips, fashion advice and fashion features where required across print and digital platforms (incl. three posts per day for online platforms)

Fashion and beauty
• Representing the magazine at launches or other functions when necessary (and to be able to write reviews/reports on these)
• Interacting with advertisers and forwarding any possible advertising opportunities to the BDM
• Maintaining good relationships with clients
• Required to assist at GH events when required
• Supply the fashion and beauty department every month with an updated list of who the current advertisers are (as these change frequently) as well as the hit-list for fashion and beauty advertisers being targeted by the promotions and above the line advertising departments
• Compile PDF’s for a “brag mail” and handover to fashion editors so that they can send to every fashion and beauty advertiser and possible fashion and beauty advertiser, informing them of the merchandise they featured in print and online for that month

• Directly supervise the interns in the department and assist with their learning and professional development
• Represent the GH fashion and beauty department and fashion and beauty editor where necessary

Requirements

• Diploma or equivalent
• interested in and passionate about fashion and beauty and able to interpret a fashion and beauty brief to brand
• keep abreast of trends by reading fashion and beauty magazines and blogs
• full set of computer skills, especially with MS word, excel and Photoshop
• show initiative and demonstrate creativity in generating ideas for future fashion and beauty pages, projects for print and digital, and brand content as a whole
• present on Twitter
• able to manage own time and tasks, and work well under pressure
• flexible and adaptable to changing circumstances and work demands
• good people skills and a professional demeanor

Personal Skills/Attributes

• valid drivers licence and access to a vehicle
• physical fitness to meet the demands of the role – lifting, carrying boxes, etc.
• personal fashion style and a clean and presentable wardrobe
• able to work irregular hours when the shoot requires it
• be persistent

• digital as well as print experience an advantage
