Girl Meets World’s super Sabrina!
It’s here at last! After months of waiting, fans can finally see new series Girl Meets World, every Saturday on Disney Channel from 15 November at 09.45am.
Twenty years ago Boy Meets World was an iconic hit series, still fondly remembered by its many fans. Childhood high school sweethearts Cory and Topanga, stars of the original series, are now married, and it’s their daughter Riley who is experiencing the trials and tribulations of teenage life. In an interesting twist, dad Cory is now a teacher at her school!
Girl Meets World is set in New York City, and tells the wonderfully funny, heartfelt stories that “Boy Meets World” is renowned for – only this time from a girl’s perspective – as the curious and bright 7th grader Riley and her quick-witted BFF Maya embark on an unforgettable middle school experience.
Sabrina Carpenter stars as Maya, the bold and independent best friend of Riley Matthews, in “Girl Meets World.” We take an in-depth look at this up and coming rising star!
Originally from Lehigh Valley, Pennsylvania, 14-year-old Carpenter began her acting career in 2010, frequently auditioning through video submissions. She landed her first guest-starring role on “Law & Order SVU.” Shortly thereafter, she was cast in the lead role in pilots for ABC, Fox and Disney Channel.
In addition to acting, Carpenter is a talented singer/songwriter signed to Hollywood Records. She released her debut song, “Can’t Blame a Girl for Trying,” in spring 2014 and will follow it with a full-length album in late 2014. In addition to singing and co-writing songs for that album, she is also learning to play the guitar and piano and has her eye on a set of drums.
Born May 11, 1999, Carpenter likes to spend time with her friends, watch movies, roller-skate and bicycle. She also likes to tap into her East Coast roots and sled whenever she gets the chance. She also loves to draw.
On her character, Sabrina says ‘I really love Maya, which is the name of my character in the show. I don’t have to try hard to play her because we’re very similar, too. Maya is very sarcastic, very quick-witted and she’s very fashionable. Riley is a great friend to Maya, so she’s a very lucky girl.
On her character’s fashion, Sabrina shares ‘Maya does a lot of thrift store shopping in New York City, which is a very fashionable city and it’s where the show is set. She has a bit of a punk-rock style, so she’s fun and colourful and chic. Our styles balance each other out.’ She continues, ‘My style can be very similar to Maya’s style, although it changes all the time. Some days I can look very Maya; other days I can look very Riley. Most of the time, I’m Sabrina. I say that my style has a sophisticated edge, so I love wearing blazers and heels – but I also love casual trousers and cool T-shirts.’
