We live in a world that is constantly changing and evolving through innovation and technology which makes our lives simpler even though some of this technology eats away at the pocket most of the time. Inventors get better at what they do because of other inventions that enhance their work and inventions.  The following is a list of 20 inventions that probably sounded like a crazy idea to someone before but now they basically rule and run the world and have changed technology in major ways.

 

Internet

You wake up every morning and check your notifications and TL and things you missed while you were sleeping. The internet has become one of the greatest parts of all our lives. It’s the world in your fingers there’s nothing you can’t find on the internet.

Computer

The computer went from being a huge ass machine that filled a whole room at some stage, to a device that sits perfectly on your lap. Really with no computer there would be no internet, simple.

Cellphone

So apparently making calls back in the day wasn’t so simple. Well I know this too, for someone to receive your call back then, they’d have to always be on the receiving end of the telephone and I mean you can’t take the telephone everywhere with you.

Electricity

No electricity, no charged cellphone uhmm no typed out article.

Cars

Walking is healthy and all but no one is about to park their car and walk from Joburg to Cape Town that’s just madness. Cars basically made life so much simpler for everyone really even those who don’t own their own!

Airplanes

Isn’t it great how we don’t use ships to get to the US anymore? We moved from days of seeing sea water to a couple of hours of seeing clouds all around. I know most of us prefer this.

Facebook

The birth of facebook was the birth of social networking I swear. Forget all the lousy chatrooms, Facebook bought a new meaning to connecting people all over the world. We all wanted to be on Facebook.

Penicillin

When fungi turns into the best antibiotic ever! Mistakes can sometimes be good mistakes.

Radio

Radio is basically news on the go, hourly reports and interviews and music. We mostly hear the latest hit on radio first before we see it on television because the produce the song first and based on it being a hit on radio they then make a music video to compliment the song.

Television

Watching plays on stage must have been so much fun but costly too I imagine. Television brought a new meaning to entertainment. Now people don’t only want to be big stars in theatre plays they want their names on TV screens and in the credits of big movies. The world is incomplete without Television.

Camera

Yes your eye’s and memory take a picture of everything you see on a daily basis but the camera has made those memories last forever for you. It’s more sentimental and has more value to you than the 2 second picture you see in your head every now and then.

Email

I’m sure at some point people would worry about their letters making it to the other person. Emails are letters that can be sent over and over again, it’s like having a copy of the letter you sent 5 days ago. Email has made communication and business some much simpler than before.

Digital Music

As much as downloading music hurts CD sales, everyone looks forward to getting that one hit song on their phone the moment it’s available for download somewhere. More people share music now because sharing music has become that simple, forget about empty discs etc.

ATM

You can only hide money under your mattress for so long before your younger sister finds it to go buy her doll an accessory or something. Bank lines are not my favourite I can’t imagine having to stand in line all day just to withdraw a young R50. ATMs changed the world really.

Calculator

We can’t really calculate 100 000 – 70 530 on an abacus now can we? Calculators made Mathematics fun and easy for most and in some instances failed others; well we’re grateful for the ones it did help.

Watch

We moved from telling the time with the sun and Sundials to actually having time simplified on a device. The clock was a great piece to have but not something you can carry around all day. The design of the watch made time more important to everyone.

GPS

No more arguing about whether you’re holding the map up the right way or not. GPS systems have become every drivers best friend and every males enemy because he simply thinks that little machine is wrong all the time no matter how accurate it may have been the time he got you lost a couple of times.

Ink

Without Ink we would still be engraving our words into stone and sending people stones instead of letters with important news in them. Ink has made the world of communication an easier one. Flyers and billboards would not exist without the beauty that is Ink.

Condoms

Condoms are the simplest form of birth control and STD control. This small but very great invention contributes to the society that we are today.

Fax

Fax is like the better version of posting letters, being able to copy a piece of paper on one end and someone receiving the exact copy of the page on the other end seems like a complicated concept but one that works quickly and effectively.
