His 2 accomplices Mziwamadoda Qwabe and Xolile Mngeni pleaded guilty to her murder in August 2012. Mziwamadoda was sentenced to 25 years in prison while Xolile was sentenced to life in prison. In his plea bargain agreement, Zola Tongo stated that Anni’s husband, Mr. Dewani, had offered R15,000 to have his wife killed. Mr. Dewani however maintains his innocence in the matter to this day.
Four years later, court proceeding are still under way. On 6 October 2014, Shrien Dewani’s trial started in Cape Town. He told the Court how his whole world came crashing down when his wife was murdered. He also stated to the court that he is bisexual.
On the second day in court, Mziwamadoda Qwabe, told the court that Mr. Dewani told him to make the killing look like a hijacking. Prosecutors therefore claim Mr Dewani conspired with him, and Zola Tongo and Xolile Mngeni.
