Fashion Do’s and Don’ts For Tall People

When you’re tall not only do you stand out everywhere you go, but there’s always the clothing issue. It’s hard enough as it is just to find clothes that fit your longer proportions, and what about finding things to even look good on your taller frame? There are certain things to take into consideration when putting together an outfit. Whether you want to emphasize your height or downplay it, this list will give you an idea of how you can make clothes look right on you, and what not to do when putting an outfit together.

Show Some Skin

You’ve got a lot of skin on your long body, so you might as well use it to your advantage. The trick is to play it up without looking slutty. Focus on showing off one area at a time. For instance, if you wear a backless top, pair it with a longer skirt or jeans. This way you’ll grab attention without stopping hearts.

Wear the right top

If you’re tall and slim with a boyish frame, look to create more womanly curves with your outfit choices. Use frills, ruffles and patterns up top to create the illusion of a bust and waist. If you want even more of a boost use gel shapers in your bra to give you more volume, boost or definition depending on the top you are wearing.

Don’t Fear Heels

Heels seem to add confidence, sex and status to any outfit. The make you feel feminine, therefore no woman should be deprived the right to wear heels. Just make sure you know how to walk in them to avoid looking lanky and awkward.

Create a waist

It’s a good idea to always create balance in your figure so that you don’t look like your body goes endlessly up and down. Use belts over layered tops, cardigans and jackets to break up the body.

Use Oversized Accessories

Don’t be afraid of carrying a giant bag or wearing thick arm bangles. Unlike your shorter friends, oversized accessories won’t make you look like you’re playing dress up with your mom’s clothes. Pair a thick belt with a shift dress or a big bag with a tank top and jeans. Just limit yourself to one oversized accessory per outfit in order to avoid looking clownish.

Things NOT to do…

Avoid all over baggy outfits

baggy clothes

It will only serve to make you look bigger. If you prefer to wear looser fitting styles, try balancing your outfit by wearing wide leg trousers with a well fitting top, or skinny jeans with a tunic or sweater. Baggy clothes will make you look like a giant and do absolutely nothing for any body shape.

Avoid monochromatic colour schemes

Instead, stick to brighter colours with neutral bottoms, or colourful bottoms and plain tops. Wearing contrasting colors will create a horizontal line break at your center, making you look shorter.

Avoid Vertical stripes

Vertical stripes will have tall women looking like a pole especially if you’re on the slim side too.

DON’T wear men’s clothing

Some tall women tend to gravitate toward clothing in a man’s size, because it often comes in various lengths and is easier to find to fit their height. Although the posted length sizes can make finding jeans to fit your height much easier, but women who wear men’s clothing always end up looking masculine and shapeless, which is never a good thing for a lady.

Avoid shoulder pads

Wearing shoulder pads for some reason makes tall women look not only tall but also big, it’s a look you want so avoid them.
