Shaka iLembe Off to A Great Start. From May 2022, the drama series started making waves. This was because of the intense marketing that Shaka iLembe ran. From trailers, billboards, TV, radio and print ads, they went all out.

The day that the nation has been waiting for finally arrived. Shaka iLembe premiered on Mzansi Magic on Sunday, starting with the beginning of Nandi’s love story. The first episode showed King Senzangakakhona being captivated by the beauty of Nandi, who he immediately see as a future wife. He went as far as taking a life, just to prove how much Nandi means to him. This though bought big trouble for his clan, with blood being shed for vengeance.

The episode was everything that many have thought it would be, if not more. Every cast member who appeared on the first episode, brought their A-Game, leaving viewers asking for more. New comers also showed why the deserve to rub shoulders with the legends cast in the series. Interestingly, there were no ads, and the episode ran from start to finish with no interruptions.

Set in the 1700s, Shaka Ilembe tells the story of the iconic black leader’s early childhood through to adulthood. The drama series takes its name from the legendary Zulu king, Shaka Zulu, who serves as a powerful symbol throughout the narrative. The influence of Shaka’s legacy is felt in the region, and his story is interwoven with the lives of the main characters, creating a captivating historical and cultural context.

The two key actors playing Shaka are the incredibly talented Lemogang Tsipa (adult king) and newcomer Ntando Zondi (young Shaka). Nomzamo Mbatha plays Queen Nandi, the revered mother of Shaka, with Thembinkosi Mthembu starring as King Dingiswayo and Wiseman Mncube in the role of King Zwide.
