Known as the new black face and leader of the Democratic Alliance , there’s a lot more that we don’t know about him besides the obvious. We think he is the South African Obama, don’t you agree? 1. Maimane is a father of 2 and his wife is Natalie Maimane.
2. He speaks six National languages – English, Xhosa, Zulu, Sesotho, Setswana, Sephedi.
3. He is the former DA Mayoral candidate for the City of Johannesburg, and is now the party’s National Spokesperson and Leader of the DA Caucus in Johannesburg.
4. Before entering politics, he lectured at the Gordon Institute of Business Science and managed his own consultancy firm. He also chaired a number of foundations involved in rural youth development and HIV management.
5. Maimane has graduated from the University of the Witwatersrand, University of South Africa and the University of Wales. He has a Bachelor’s degree in psychology, a Masters degree in theology and a Masters degree in public and development management.
6. He wants schools to go digital; eco-friendly public transport; and efficient online billing from municipalities.
7. He is currently considering a doctorate in economics, and would love to see his party win two more cities.
8. At the age of 33, he is one of the youngest leaders in South African politics.
9. He is often likened to the American president, Barack Obama for his public speaking style, and reference to children.
10. His mother was domestic worker.
