Tumisho Masha Looks On The Brighter Side of The R13 Million Oliver Tambo Statue. On Tuesday, President Cyril Ramaphosa, unveiled the nine metre tall bronze statue of Oliver Tambo. The statue erected outside the international arrivals terminal at the OR Tambo International Airport is set to attract tourists.

Many took to social media to question the government’s priorities looking at the fact that we are dealing with the economic repercussions of the Covid-19 pandemic. One tweep was not happy with the government spending 13 million for a statue during a pandemic, while about 2 million people lost their jobs.

Tumisho Masha, though looks at things from a brighter side. The veteran actor and TV personality, stated that a lot of people found employment from the statue. Tumisho mentioned, the artist, assistants, and everyone else who contributed to the statue to be where it is.

But an artist, her assistants, product suppliers, people who transport the statue and everyone else involved in making this happen got paid and fed their families. Should we stop making art when there’s unemployment? Stop shooting films, making music, painting? Art is an industry,” Tumisho said.
