60 Nigerian Girls Escape Boko Haram
According to latest reports from AFP over 60 of the over 200 girls who were abducted by Boko Haram are said to have fled the north-eastern region have reportedly fled their captors.
Over 200 schoolgirls were abducted April are still being held by Boko Haram, which seeks to establish a fundamentalist Islamic state in the country’s north. The Boko Harām militants said it would treat them as slaves as part of the “war booty”.
The group exerts influence in the northeastern Nigerian states of Borno, Adamawa, Kaduna, Bauchi, Yobe and Kano. In this region, a state of emergency has been declared.
