Check Out Melissa Nayimuli’s Miss Universe National Costume and the Inspiration Behind It. Only two days before the Miss Universe 2025 finale takes place. Our representative Melissa Nayimuli is doing her best, to make sure that the prestigious crown comes home.
The beauty queen keeps on updating on social media on her stay in Thailand. Melissa is also busy with preparations, and so far so good. Her national costume has just been unveiled, making her stand out above the rest. She rocked a modern Xhosa Umbaco, paying homage to her mother’s culture. The black and white outfit also celebrated South African women.
“Raised by a powerful Xhosa woman, her mother Melissa’s national costume is timely, by celebrating women in South Africa.
Draped in a majestic black and white cape, Melissa Nayimuli’s national costume is a regal homage to the indomitable strength and spirit of Xhosa women. The contrasting tones of black and white represent balance — a visual metaphor for the duality of grace and resilience carried by generations of Eastern Cape women.
The flowing cape, handcrafted with meticulous care, pays tribute to the powerful matriarchs and trailblazers who have shaped South African history — from her mother’s quiet strength to the unyielding courage of icons like Mama Winnie Madikizela-Mandela and Zozibini Tunzi, who stood tall as a global voice for authenticity and pride in African beauty.
This national costume celebrates women in creative industry who designed the national costuming honoring Melissa’s natural spirit of ART & COLLABORATION.
Intricate design & impeccable execution by legendary women at @hollywood_costumes with beading in collaboration with a female owned brand @lunto_accessories.
Completing the look is the traditional isgcolo (Xhosa headpiece), symbolizing wisdom, dignity, and the crown of womanhood.
Melissa’s costume tells a story of heritage and heroism — a visual declaration that she carries not only her own dreams, but the legacy of every woman who has walked before her. It is regal yet raw, rooted yet radiant — a reminder that South African strength is stitched in culture, spirit, and purpose,” the costume was explained.
