10 Interesting Facts About the Late Fashion Designer Quiteria Kekana. The local fashion industry recently suffered a major blow, as one of its key players was announced dead. Lebohang Quiteria Kekana passed away on the 17th of April after a short battle with cancer. He will go down history as one of the best fashion designers we have ever had in this country.

1. Quiteria Kekana was born in 1983 in Katlehong, Ekurhuleni, He grew up in the Limpopo settlement of Blood Rive, where he schooled. He continued his studies at Pretoria Technikon which is now known as Tshwane University of Technology.

2. He was drawn to the fashion industry by the opportunity to express himself through cloth, which is constantly changing.

3. Quiteria made his name known under his former partnership with George, with the pair known as Quitera & George. The two met in 2010 at Mpumalanga Fashion Week and hit it off.

4. Their label was a hit, and they have worked with so many A-list celebrities among them, Terry Pheto, Dineo Langa, Boity Thulo, Thando Thabethe and Lerato Kganyago.

5. In 2019, working with actress and fashion designer Enhle Mbali Mlotshwa, they designed one of Beyoncé’s gowns for the Global Citizen Concert. Sadly the pair parted ways,due to differences.

6. Quiteria has had his fair share of drama in the industry. In 2021, comedian and TV presenter Lesego Thlabi, alleged, she was fat-shamed and made to feel “like less than nothing” by the high-end fashion designer. He however denied such allegations

7. In July 2021, the designer revealed that he had been diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma, a cancer that forms in a type of white blood cell called a plasma cell.

8. Because of this, Quiteria had to take a break from work to focus on his health. He also shared how his finances had suffered as a result of the many specialist visits and treatments he had to undergo.

9. In an attempt to help cancer survivors, the late designer had partnered with Brut and Blemished Foundation to raise awareness and to raise funds for cancer survivors who couldn’t afford to live a healthier lifestyle.
