The Late Connie Chiume Honored at Directors Guild of South Africa Creatives Awards. It has been almost two years since her passing, but she is definitely not forgotten. Mam Connie Chiume continues to be recognized for the great actress she was and what she did for the entertainment space.
On the 11th of August, the late Mama Connie, was honored with a Posthumous Lifetime Achievement Award by The Directors Guild of South Africa (DGSA). The first ever Directors Guild of South Africa Creatives Awards were initially planned for November 2025. They aim to spotlight the country’s talented directors making waves both locally and internationally. Other stars who were honoured include Connie Ferguson and Thabo Rametsi.
Mama Connie was honored for her legacy that continues to inspire and shape South African storytelling. She is described as an extraordinary gift transcended performance, who embodied truth, dignity, and emotional depth in every role she portrayed.
“As directors, we often say that great storytelling lives in collaboration, and few artists understood that better than Mhe Connie. Her craft made our visions possible, her interpretations gave our stories heart, and her presence elevated every frame she touched.
We, as the directing community, recognise that the stories we tell are only as powerful as those who bring them to life. Mhe Connie Chiume made us look good as directors because she translated our narratives with passion, precision, and creative brilliance.
Her artistry continues to remind us why we tell stories, to connect, to reflect, and to honour those who came before us.
This recognition is not only a celebration of her career but a deep expression of gratitude from every director whose story she helped to tell,” DGSA shared.
