Shaleen Surtie-Richards was found dead on Monday, June 7, at a guest house in Cape Town, where she was filming scenes for kykNet’s “Arendsvlei”. Two days since the news, heartfelt tributes continue to pour in.
From president Cyril Ramaphosa, colleagues to fans, everyone hailed her as one of the best to ever do it. She may be gone, but Surtie-Richards is definitely not forgotten. To honor her, MultiChoice will broadcast a never-before-seen documentary, “Shaleen Surtie-Richards: I Am Who I Am”. The documentary which was commissioned to celebrate her life, was in its final stages of post-production when the news of her passing was announced.
“Shaleen Surtie-Richards: I Am Who I Am”, will air on M-Net on Wednesday, June 9 at 7.30pm and on kykNET and kykNET & kie on Sunday, June 13 at 8pm. It will also be available on Showmax on Thursday, June 10. It is a definite must watch.
Her family has called on the South African Presidency to give her a state funeral. While they await the Presidency’s response, Surtie-Richards’s funeral has been set for Sunday, June 13 at 2.30pm at Durbanville Memorial Park in Cape Town.
