BCM Municipality: Civil Engineering Graduate Programme 2014
Buffalo City Metropolitan Municipality jointly with National Treasury hereby invites qualified graduates (BSc Civil Engineering and/or National Diploma in Civil Engineering and Project Management) for a training opportunity.
The objective of this programme is to make provision for existence of a pool of qualified Professional Civil Engineers and Civil Engineering Technologists or Technicians that meet requirements to register with professional body ECSA within a minimum period of three years and possibly appoint them into the institution upon completion of the programme.
The programme is designed to assist participants with theoretical learning in relevant learning institutions and further engage them in experiential learning in the Municipal Engineering field.
Learning at the workplace includes inter alia; data collection, project definition, demand management, design of municipal engineering services, contract documentation, costing of projects , procurement, site supervision and monitoring, quality control, performance management, operations and maintenance of municipal service infrastructure and plant, cost control, survey and project management.
The interns will also be exposed to various activities related to the operation, management, and maintenance of municipal service infrastructure (roads, storm-water, water services, sanitation services, solid waste disposal and land fill management; and project management) within a metropolitan environment.
Mentorship will be arranged for the workplace-based experiential learning sign off and approval towards registration portfolio. On successful completion of the contract, the interns will be required to to take up relevant vacant employment positions offered to them within the municipality.
