Speaking to Drum Magazine, the family spokesperson Nhlanhla Lux Dlamini, revealed that DJ Citi Lyts died in a hijacking incident. He died after being shot at eight times, by unknown gunmen in Dube, Soweto. No arrest have been made yet, as the case is still fresh, and investigations are ongoing.
“They were ambushed and that is ambushed that is the best way to put it. They coupled up; four guys came out of nowhere, stopped them, and shot them in their heads. They fought as much as they can, and the guys shot them. I canβt confirm how many they were in the car yet, but this happened at Dube, Soweto,β Dlamini said.
A lot of people, came to know him as the brother of the late award winning rapper ProKid. But besides that, DJ Citi Lyts has captured the hearts of music lovers with his talent over the years. He released such hits, including Washa, Vura and Malambane under Ambitiouz Entertainment. While still with the label, DJ Citi Lyts worked with several major artists, including Sjava, Emtee and Fifi Cooper.
His hit, Vura was nominated for Song of the Year at the 2016 South African Hip Hop Awards andΒ Best Hit Single at the 16th Annual Metro FM Awards in 2017.
This is definitely a hard blow for the family, after they lost another son ProKid, in 2018. We send our deepest condolences to the Mkhize family as they process this devastating loss, and hope justice prevails soon.
