Mabala Noise Contractual Issues With Zola Are Cleared
Rumour had it that rapper Zola has been signed by a record label company called Mabala Noise. However, Mabala Noise spokesperson Mhlo Gumede has cleared the air on the company’s contract controversy with the veteran musician and said that they did not sign Zola. Last week, the rapper was unveiled being at the label’s launch party.
“He did not sign with Mabala Noise, but we do have an open working relationship with him” said Gumede. He further confirmed that Zola was not on the record label’s books and that Zola being discovered with the label’s other artist last year was because it was believed that a deal to bring him on board was close. Gumede went on and explained that they really wanted to sign him, but the deal was put on ice due to the contractual issue.
The Mabala Noise spokesperson also said that despite the controversy, there is not bad blood between Mabala Noise and Zola. There was a disagreement on percentages hence the dispute. “There is no bitterness or ill feelings between the label and Zola, perhaps one day he’ll be a Mabala Noise artist, but not now” Gumede added.
Zola also confirmed that he is still representing himself and this whole situation confused him. “It looks like I have never been a member of Mabala Noise” said the rapper. He went and said that he get his own gigs through his phone or texts. He didn’t sign the contract because he couldn’t figure out as to whether he was signing as a musician or personality.
Zola told the Sunday Times that the management was out of the country when he requested a meeting so they can make things clear to him. “I have tried so many times to meet up with management over contractual issues, but it’s either they’re out of the country or busy with other things” he said.
