Nandi Madida Throws Us Back to the Iconic Moment She and Zakes Bantwini Had With Hugh Masekela. He many be gone, but Hugh Masekela is definitely not forgotten. While most of us still jam to his music, there are those who have been lucky enough to be in his space.

Nandi Madida and her husband Zakes Bantwini are among those who have been in the same room as the late music legend. Taking us through that beautiful day, Nandi states that they had dinner with Hugh and other close friends on Christmas day back in 2015. Hugh then affirmed to Zakes that one day he will win a Grammy award.

“I’ll never forget this day,it was during Christmas time 7 yrs ago (2015). I remember we had dinner and chatted with the legendary Bra Hugh Masekela with close friends. During that dinner he said that one day @ZakesbantwiniSA would win a Grammy. I’ll never forget that day. #RIPBraHugh,” Nandi said.

As they say, dreams delayed are not dreams denied. Seven years later, Zakes has won his first Grammy. Together with Nomcebo Zikode and Wouter Kellerman Zakes was among the winners at the 65th edition of the major awards. The trio walked away with the Best Performance award in the Global Music category, for their hit song ‘Bayethe’.

During difficult times of load shedding and inflation, the country has something to be proud of. Zakes and his team are still receiving congratulation messaged from the public and their peers in the entertainment industry. They also got a beautiful message for President Cyril Ramaphosa, who is proud that they represented the country really well.
