The winter season has been around for so many years and people still don’t know how to dress for it or use winter as an excuse for looking improper in public. These are the fashion do’s and dont’s of the 2014 winter season:
- DON’T: Furry boots – When a girl walks by wearing what looks like a Chihuahua on her ankles, we our attention moves from the pretty face that she is down to, “what the hell was she thinking?”
- DO: Long coats – There’s no better item of clothing to invest in for the winter than a coat. They accentuate curves (for women) or broaden the shoulders (for guys), even though a really good one may force you to dig deep into your pocket you can definitely wear every winter season for the next 3 years or so, depending how quickly you gain weight and all.
- DON’T: Ed Hardy. Spending almost R450.00 on a T-shirt (in the winter) it just simply doesn’t make sense mate.
- DO: Solid colour long-sleeved V-necks or sweaters: are not just for hipsters anymore, these look fresh under a sport coat or a hoodie, plus the solid color will never go out of style.
- DO: Flannel shirts. Yes, that checker shirt Chris Brown always has around his waist is called a Flannel shirt. As much as they annoy me these things are in fashion man. It will never die and always be the go-to-garb for hip cats and arctic cats alike.
- DON’T: Flannel pants. My Guy, no one wants to see Little Johnny daggle from left to right with every step you take. Girls: My lady, it’s alright to wear these in your dorm but, outside? It kinda gives people the impression that well all you do all day is watch TV and just hang.
- DO: Fingerless gloves are great for texters yeah; those social people who just cant help but be on their phone 24/7, it’s also convenient to sign your receipt at the store quickly. Not only user fashion forward but also gives you ‘coolness points’ we’re all about that street cred.
- DON’T: Wearing weather-inappropriate shoes, it doesn’t matter if the sun is shinning bright when you step out the door in the morning, its still winter. Next we’ll be seeing your toes all blue from Chilblains.
- DO: Hats with flaps-need I say anything? They don’t only keep your ears warm but also show that you’re on par with the demands of fashionista’s worldwide.
- DON’T: Balaclava or full-face ski mask- as much as ‘Mr. I,m the king of the world’ Kanye has made it a trend,walk into a bank wearing a balaclava and watch the whole security team jump on you! That’s the only reason it’s a no, no really.You can thank me later…Mbali Ntuli
